Abstract

The paper examined the incidences, causes and effects of kidnapping in Kaduna State, Nigeria between 2015-2018. There has been a perceived upsurge of the crime of kidnapping in Kaduna State and this social menace has assumed a worrisome state. This act of criminality is perpetrated by emerging criminal groups as well as individual criminals. This paper having gone through some of the causes of kidnapping in the state; being: unemployment, poor security system, leadership failure, poverty, get-rich-quick mentality, and loss of societal value system, found out that, while the motive of kidnapping differs, most kidnappers in Kaduna State indulge in kidnapping for ransom and its pecuniary gains; that government inability to curb the situation has further escalated the crime. This paper therefore recommends that government should do the following: make kidnapping a high-risk crime, training of kidnapping agents in the state, job creation, non-payment of ransom, monitoring the activities of security agents and intelligence

Synergy and collaboration between inter-security agencies and the community.
