INFLUENCE OF FRESH FM OCEAN OF POLITICS PROGRAMME ON POLITICAL PARTICIPATION AMONG OSHOGBO RESIDENTS

Abstract


Fresh FM Osogbo Ocean of politics (Agbami Oselu) is a political programme with authoritative voice on politics and political actors. It is arguably a flagship Yoruba political programme on Radio in Osun State. Although, the programme touches on a number of subjects in the political space, its influence on the political participation among Osogbo residents is the focus of this study. The study was anchored on Agenda setting theory and Media dependency theory and survey method was used to generate data from 377 respondents in Osogbo. The findings showed that Osogbo Fresh FM Ocean of politics (Agbami Oselu) programme influenced the respondents’ participation in politics positively. The study thus recommends that balance and fairness should be taken into consideration by broadcast stations airing political programmes.
